my guinea pig is urinating light red. had bowel trouble but that seems ok. is eating and drinking as normal.?

he is 4+ + years. had some bowel problems but they seem to have worked it self out. we do not have a vet who works with quinea pigs in our area.
Answers:
You need to find a vet that treats them.NOW! That GP has a urinary infection of some sort. He will need to be seen by a vet to diagnose and treat it. The sooner he is diagnosed, the better. Call your local humane society, or look up vets on the internet..try a yellow pages site. Or ask some area vets who you can call. The important thing is to start calling around now and try to find someone.you cannot treat this at home. If I find a site to help you, I will update.
**Update.I found some vet lookup sites..I will list some that tell the types of pets the vets handle
http://www.talktothevet.com/veterinarian.
http://www.cavyinfo.com/html/vet_finder.. (this is a lookup for GP vets)
If these two sites don't help, call an emergency hospital, or teaching hospital. If they can't help, they should know who can.
i would take it to the vet, my friend`s guniea pig had the same thing, i`m not sure what happen she took him to the vet but i haven`t heard anything back yet.

good luck
you may want to put him out of his misery and get a new one. sounds like kidney failure.

Bowel problems don't work them selves out. It sounds like he has an impaction problem, and may now have a bladder infection or stones. He needs to have his scent sack cleaned out and tests for infections, Carrots cause liver and kidny problems.

Needs a vet bad. There is a lot involved when they're on antibiotics because they have to be hand fed.
So, what kinds of things has your guinea pig been eating lately? Guinea pigs are a lot like rabbits in the sense of how their digestive systems work. The good news is that usually (like 9 times out of 10), red doesn't mean that there's blood present. Most cases of red urine are due to the presence of a plant pigment called porphyrin. Most of the time, they might have red looking urine for a day or two but it will usually clear up on it' own as the pigment works it's way out of the system. Usually I tend to see most cases of red urine in both species in the fall time and in early winter.still haven't figured out quite why that happens. If your guinea pig is eating and drinking normally, and doesn't show any other signs of illness (such as odd behavior), then I would give it a few days and see if it clears on its' own. If it doesn't, then you're going to have to assume the worst, and find a vet or an experienced guinea pig breeder that might be able to help you. If it clears on it's own, then there's no reason to worry! Hope the little guy's okay!
Here's a few excellent websites on guinea pigs, hope they give you some good info -
