my guinea pig seems unhappy, please help?

i have two boys one is a year old(meemoe) and sparky is about 6 months or so.they board 2gether, lately sparky has been making a low weeting noise almost like a whine or cry i checked him for wounds, none. they do have fleas that they got from my cats but i took care of that last night and he's still makin that noise, he's not eating as much either,, he doesn't have diarea or breathing probs or sneezing coughing etc. i don't know if that noise is normal for them, meemoe doesn't do it, but i've heard they all make their own unique noises, i've also heard its not good to board 2 males 2gether, but mine seem fine 2gether they don't really bother eachother that i've seen and i watch them often(they're in my livingroom so they're always in sight) i feel so bad please help

I dont think that the fact that you have two males in the same habitat would make them unhappy. if your habitat is too small for them, this could pose a problem as they would not have alot of room to move. maybe get a bigger cage? so they can move away from eachother if they want. there are many to choose from. Also, i do not know what you feed your guy's, but try adding, in a seperate bowl, sliced orange (peels and all) and some fresh parsley and maybe a little carrots. this will give them some vitamin C to their diet. A small bowl full everyday. (regular food also in seperate bowl) they will enjoy the snack and love you for it. this is what we do at the pet-store that i work at.
As far as the fleas are concerned, petco offers a spray made especially for small animals.
the problem with using a product for cat's (or other larger animals), is the chemicles used in these can harm your guinne pig's delicate skin an possably cause death or respitory problems.
the product is called:
8 in 1 Pro Ultra-Care Flea and Tick Spray for Small Animals
8 oz. (SKU: 354430) %26lt;----just show this info and the product name to the petco clerk and they will find it right away for you and if not they can order it for you. it is very enexpensive.
Also, my suggestion for you is to take your friend to the vet, as fleas can cause many problems for them just like in cats.
The strange noises could be an early alert that something may be wrong internally because of the fleas.
oh, also when you treat the fleas, change all bedding material, wash all bowls, running wheels, hiding domes, ect. along with the cage in a mild bleach sulution, rinse WELL and let completely air dry before placing your little friends back into the cage.
you also must treat your home for fleas as well as the other animals in the house, otherwise, though the spray for the guinnes may kill some fleas, it will not solve your problem.
make sure your little friends are not getting a draft, or are too hot (like in direct sunlight)
hope this helps. sorry for such a long answer as i tend to be very detail orientated and a bad speller. lol.
much luck.
clean that cage repeatedly for bugs.did you check if the flea shampoo you used was harmful for guinea pigs?
Maybe they are bored in the cage, let em out for a while in the grass, but watch them very closely. Or maybe try new food. But if they keep acting that way go to vet and ask them. Maybe even try to separate them for a day or two and see how they react.
hiya!
sorry to hear that your gps are acting weird.first of all, did you check that the flea stuff you used was ok for gps.if not than that could be the cause, try some insecticidal spoo for gps and rabbits.make sure only to put a small bit on them.they will try to move but talk softl to them and they'll calm down.
another thing it might be is just there natural noise they make, if he does it when you put food down then dont worry.also if hes off his food, try a differant brand.its good to give them variety.even try some rab food mixed with gp food.
but if none of thats the case, id say take him to the vet.
good luck.

They are happy :) Guinea pigs sing when they are happy.
If he's making that noise when he's moving around, that's the noise they make while exploring things. If it's a noise he makes when the other one comes close it means he doesn't like it. Your taking a big chance putting 2 males together. They're very territorial, and sometimes get into very bloody battles, or sometimes fight to the death. That wasn't smart. One piggie can bully the other without you knowing it. If that's what's going on the young one will die because of stress and not eating right. If you heard not to put 2 males together, WHY DID YOU DO IT!. Each piggie needs at least 4 square feet of room, that means 8 square feet for 2 piggies. Do you have that? This is a pathetic situation.
How big is their cage? I have a plastic kiddie pool (no water) for my 3 guinea pigs (mom, son, and daughter) the dad is in a playpen thing. im gonna put the son with the dad soon. Maybe he needs to be held more.
you may try seperating them an see if that helps or seperate them an get them a girl friend mine cried alot til i got her a boyfriend shes not made a noise since other than when its time to clean the cage

Great web site for all your questions.

Ignore the whole 2 males being together thing if you have enough space. over 8 square feet, I recommend a little more for males, which can be a little more susceptible to behavioral problems when the hormones surge (think of a teen age boy) they need space and decent food or they will drive you crazy
