HI

Yes.. Hamsters do not do well in cold even with additional bedding.

what kind of heat do you have to use when you are home??

If its sae to leave it on whie you are gone.. I would

If not.. then

Maybe Put You Hamster in the bathtub still in his cage, and put a heating pad in the tub next to the cage but not touching it.. lay it flat on the tub surface. make sure to dry the tub.

You could also try putting his cage near a light bulb.. but either one of these will require you to do some test runs. Put thermometer in his cage and check the temp of the actaul cage with the heating pad or lamp do it at 1 hour intervals.,.. Dont leave it in the cage where he can chew it.. Just put it in and take it out once you get the read.

You want to make sure its not too hot

I would also find the warmest area of your home to leave him in. what room or area stays warmest?? Bathroom?
Close teh door..
I do not recommed leaving a heating pad on anywhere but in the tub.. due to fire risk.

Make sure there is not other things in tub like towels etc..

I wish you luck .. but You do need to find a way to keep him warm, or he will probably die.

Sorry

Wismom
it might
Well, I had a total of 3 hamsters when I lived in a very cold basement. They all died within a few weeks and I'm in the belief that the cold killed them despite the fact they had lots of bedding and such. I would recommend keeping on a space heater in the room your hamster is in, just enough to warm up the room.
No.
Hamsters wear fur all year round and most come from cold climates. It'll be fine.

More dangerous is to shoot at it with an air rifle, while it's cold. That'll kill it for sure.
As long as you give him loads of bedding or something that he can burrow into to make a large nest then he should be fine. You can also cover his cage with a towel to help even more. Keep good food in his dish so his body has fuel to convert to heat. Remember, he has a fur coat on and he balls up into a ball to sleep and keep warm. I hope this helps.Good Luck..
How cold are you talking? If you cannot provide an environment for the hamster to live you should give it to someone who can. Hamsters can live in areas where it is a little cold because of their fur. But like all animals the can freeze to death also.
r they syrian or dwarf? dwarf can handle low temps better. what do u mean, when u arent there? how long are u gone for and how cold does it get? get a thermometer %26 check the temp. if it's below 60 he could go into hibernation which isnt good---i wont go into details since that hasnt happened. above that is ok.

a heating lamp or even just a light nearby would help. just make sure it isnt too close and that it's not on the entire cage because they need some darkness and they may want relief from the warmth sometimes. do not wrap cotton or a towel, blanket, or other material around his cage as he will chew this and can get it stuck in his pouches and it can cause digestive problems.

u can buy a reptile under-tank style heating pad for around $10-15. they are self-regulating and safe to leave on around the clock. (don't use the kind made for humans) it is best to either place the pad under one corner of the cage or to raise the cage about one inch and place the pad beneath.

make sure he has plenty of bedding for his nest. aspen and/or carefresh. give him some plain, dye-free toilet tissue that he can shred for his bed too. i use scott.
