My guinea pigs keep kicking the bedding out of the cage. Whats wrong?

My piggies keep kicking their bedding out, mostly because of jumping and playing. Why? Also, how often should I clean out the poop and pee? I know you should thoroughly clean the cage once a week.

Nothing is wrong they are happy (O:

I have a guinea pig rescue, and can have as many a forty in my home at given time; the shavings are always flying here. It means they are happy. You can switch to woody pet, it is al little harder for them to get it flying in the air as they are popcorning all over the place like little furry lunatic. Another good bedding in yesterdays news, and care fresh it seems to take flight less, a simple rule of thumb is if you can smell it you have waited to long, I do cage changes here about every four to five days, depending on the piggies. Try not to use the cedar shaving as they have aromatic oils in them that are great for covering up the odor but will cost you big down the road in vet bills, as the cedar damages their organ. Also stay way from the pine shaving that are green they will do the same thing.

A good place to research

You have to completely replace the bedding every week. Make sure to NOT use pine or cedar bedding because your piggies can get sick from the added oils. Use alpine or something like Carefresh or Yesterdays News. It wont irritate their sensitve lungs.

We had to put up screen about six inches up the sides of the cage because they love to play and bedding will end up all over the place. We just used wire to attach it to the cage. Message me if you want more details on how to do this. Make sure if you do the screen thing that the wire ties are toward the outside so your piggies don't chew it!
I have two pet chickens and they have a little house that they like to sit in when the weather is not pleasing to them. I put a thick layer of straw in there for them to sit in and the first thing they do is pull it all out. You'd think they'd realize that if they have a nice thck layer of straw it would be soft to sit in, but noooooo, they have to kick and scratch it all out and strew it around outside the front of the house.

I guess this is similar behavior to what you have. If you think animals have the same value system working in their little heads that we do then you would be wrong. Neatness and order have no place in animal brains, so all this kicking, scatching and clawing that scatters all the bedding around is just what they are programmed to do, just like we are programmed to clean it up and wonder why they do that.
There is nothing you can to do stop this.Just when you clean the cage. If it smells bad after a few days then clean it more.
Watch out for mites in their bedding, it can really upset them,or they maybe just playing. there are some types of leaves or twigs they do not like as they are sensitive to smells, which makes them kick their bedding out!
Well that is juat how thy make there bed and how thy clean there places out and also how thy make a nest for there babies and you should clean there cage two times a week to make sure it's always and that away thy won't get sick by doing so.

Ok and make sure you don't over feed them lol =) well good luck to you.
They just kick it out because they're playing. I would clean their cage atleast every other day. If you wait a whole week, they get really stinky! If you get sick of picking up bedding all the time, you could keep them in a glass aquarium although I don't think they get great venilation in glass. I kept mine in laundry basket, it worked great and it was easy to clean! By the way, do yours like lettuce and carrots? Try giving them to them. Every time they hear the fridge door open, they start squealing like mad. Its really funny how much they love their veggies.
every other day
