My female hamster will not mate with my other male? what should i do?

They always fight and its getting annoying to have to seperate them. =o
Answers:
You can't force things like that. Try setting them up for a nice candlelit dinner.
Maybe they don't like each other. give them some time and they may come around.
They need hamster couple's counseling fast before they kill each other.
Put them in separate cages where they can see each other, but cannot fight. These things take time. Would you have a baby with a random stranger? It's the same way. I'm not sure if rodent mating requires a season or if the female needs to be in heat. Kepp them this way until they get more used to each other. Then put them together and supervise them. If you need to leave return them to their seperate cages. You can't force these things. Good Luck!
first of all unless u watch them 24/7 u wouldnt know if they have. and why do u want them to mate anyway? there r so many homeless hamsters already. even when they r bred u have to separate them right after they mate because they will fight and eventually kill. they have to have separate cages. if they havent u cant force it. just give him his own home and wait a few weeks and see if she has babies. baby hamsters r a lot of responsibility. r u prepared to find homes for possibly 15 babies? how about cannibalism? or birth defects?

My female dog is in heat, but doesn't want to mate with the male dog, what could be the problem?

Answers:
Maybe the male dog is just inexperienced at mating or she doesnt KNOW the male dog! Alot of times if the male is inexperienced and not quite sure what to do then the female will take charge and not give it up! Try finding a different stud for her - one that has experience in this! Good luck
she's gay?
She's not horny?
maybe she don't like his puss
it may not be the right time during her season, try again in a couple of days.
he never bought her a dinner first.or he refused to give her the remote control.or he didn't bother to put the lid to the toilet seat up(SHE IS A DOG THAT DRINKS FROM THE BOWL )so you know O.K. bad joke.
Separation anxiety. from the owner.
she is not in standing heat yet she will be int eh next few days that is normal
Maybe he's not her type!?!

My female angora rabbit is agressive. How can I calm her down?

Answers:
Give her a place in her cage to hide, like one of those hollow half-logs or a box, and don't handle her unless she comes to the front of the cage. She needs to feel in control of her space. When you take her out, pet her for a short time and give her a treat, and put her back the minute you think she might be starting to get difficult. Once she knows she's safe with you, and she can get back home when she needs to, she might be more tolerant.
Also, give her something to keep her busy, like a chew toy, something to dig in, newspaper to shred, or hay. Many animals are cranky when they're bored.
Give her a carrot and while she is gnawing on it, gently pet her and talk to her in a soothing voice. This way she will begin to associate you with food. Of course that might make her eat you. Good luck.
Is she spayed? If not it's likely her hormones. Did you know that unspayed female rabbits have a very high cancer rate? For other tips go to http://www.rabbit.org
Take it out side it probobly wants to have fun.
Let her trust you, make her feel like she is in a safe environment and make sure she is healthy

Also get, her spayed, it always helps them and makes them so much more calm!
I have 4 rabbits, i was told that one was female but later found out it was a male, he is aggressive %26 horny, i gave him his own toy and he is much happier. Maybe your rabbit is male, throw a fluffy stuffed toy about the rabbits size into her cage %26 see what she does. My female rabbits are not aggressive like the males. Maybe she is scared.

My female 3month old rat humped my 11month old female rat. WHY?

Does humping mean shes a boy?
Answers:
LOL no, it doesn't mean it's a boy, or that it's a lesbian.
Female rats will sometimes do that to eachother, (or "rat boxing", which is really funny to see) as a dominating behavior. They might just be trying to figure out which of them is in charge, so to speak. If your humping rat IS a male, it would have enormous testicles. Since it doesn't sound like you've noticed any giant gonads, I'd say you've just got some girls that are trying to figure out who's in charge.
WOW! Rats have like HUGE testicles!! Can't you tell if it is a boy??
Your rat is, put simply, a queer.
Umm.
Maybe she is a lesbian. But rats have huge things. You would be able to tell.
Hi no this is a well documented fact that rats are bisexual.on experiment done with rats was the following.

A number of rats was placed in a cage %26 allowed to breed.when they became overcrowned any new babies were killed %26 then the rats resort to homosexuality.

This doesn't mean that the rat is cruel but if thought thru it is pretty smart for a rat.deciding that there are too many in the cage %26 they don't have the space the babies were for lack of a better term disposed of.they have no form of birth control but they were smart enough to still enjoy a sexlife without there being any further offsprings.

I was amazed to learn that many years ago when I heard about it but it is pretty smart.maybe a little rastic but none the less smart.

Homosexuality happend throughout the animal kingdom if you look up banobos that are like chimps they use those means like people would us a hand shake %26 it is all a social bonding.maybe to human standards a little perverse but quite true..

Go to google %26 look up homosexuality in animals it a real eye opener.

Having been a dog breeder now for many years I have come across some weird %26 wonderful things %26 have read up on most of them, none any weirder than a dog a friend of mine bought from a guy at a horse fair that was bought as a female %26 turned out to be the only dog that I or my vet had seen that was in fact intersexed..that was a shocker at the time.
When I asked him to take a look at my friends dog for them he thought I had lost my mind as he had never seen one before.changed his mind real fast though lol.
animals like rats and rabbits do that because they don't know what sex they are! your rat doesn't know if she's a boy or a girl, or if the one with it is a boy or a girl. so they just give it a try!
It has nothing to do with sex. It is related to dominance. The dominant(alpha) rat will hump the others so that they know its boss. I have one little boy who often humps one of his cage mates. He does this whenever he feels that the other is challenging his postion. I wouldnt worry about it, its all part of sorting out the pecking order.
everyone is wrong, except kiffie.

All animals mount an animal of the same gender. It is a dominance thing. My female guinea pigs do it. Also, as they are females it could be that she is in season/heat (that time of the month). My female guinea pigs' hormones go a bit hay-wire and they all start mounting when they are on that time of the month.
Likes older women

My fave animal is the baby harp seal. What do you think?

Yes it sounds kinda wierd, if you wanna see a pic, search it .! I'm sure you'll fall in love w/ it.

any1 out there a seal-lover?
Answers:
I love animals, and baby harp seals are just the cutest. When I was a kid and I was visiting with family in Newfoundland, one of my uncles was out fishing. When he came in for the day, he had a baby seal with him in his boat that had gotten separated from his mother and had fallen into the water near where my uncle and other fishermen were pulling in their traps. It had gotten caught in a net and he had brought it to shore to untangle it. He had me put on his slicker and a big pair of gloves so that I could hold it while he rowed back out to the ice floes and put it back with the other seals. I can still remember that little one snuggling into my arms and looking up at me with those big shiny puppy dog eyes; and I wanted to take it home so bad. I knew I couldn't, but it was really hard to resist. They are incredibly sweet and smart. My uncle was smart to have me put the slicker and gloves, so that the mother seal wouldn't reject it, he rowed out near the ice pack and placed the baby back on the ice and the mom practically slid over the ice in one movement with her head bobbing up and down and making these little honking type noises. This was over thirty years ago, and I can still remember it like it was yesterday. It isn't weird at all for you to love them. I have four adorable cats and one adorable Pom as part of my family, but if there was a way I could have a pet seal, I would. My kids and grandkids would love it too! Have a good night.
Awesome choice! I worked with seals years ago, and their personalities are just like puppies
aww this is so cute!

http://animalsvoice.com/images/seal_kiss.
Cute but I prefer a constrictor snake. LOL dinner time!
HARP seals are beautiful. Sadly they are still poached in the arctic by russian trappers and their furs are sold on the black market. what is truely sad is the manner in which they are killed and the impact that it has had on the species as a whole. Last i looked it was on the top 10 of worlds most endangered sea mammals.and in the top 50 for animals in general.

My Fancy Syrian hamster smells bad.?

She's a Fancy Syrian and whenever she comes out her whole cage stinks. I don't know what's wrong - we clean up the wet patches every day and we clear some of the poos (I know you're not supposed to take all of them) out of her nest every day. We also clean her out twice a week - it's just her that smells bad. there is a white powder you can get that dwarf hamsters like to toll in to keep clean. Is there anything like that for Syrians?
Answers:
When was the last time you gaver her a bath? Don't you think you would smell bad if you didn't take a shower?
get onto Google and look it up.you may just find the answer.if not, phone the vet and ask..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/syrian_hams.
with no doubt, you have to read, have a look to your mirror once a week, then you will find the answer to your question. if not use detol to clean up your sole and be honset, not in powder the man lives.
with two hands along come free brain.. wake up to something more important..
Well, get a small tub, fill it with a little water, use a TINY drop of baby/kitten shampoo, and bathe her off, rinse, and blow dry with a hair dryer on LOW while using your hand to block off some of the air.

My Fancy Rats attract wild Rats, anyone else with that problem?

I had them in the living room and a wild one got in the house.I moved to the basement, and wild one dug under the house some how. I moved them to an outside garage and now my pet Rats are passing food through the cages to the wild ones. I don't like poison cause they crawl off and die and stink.
Answers:
I've never had this problem. It does make sense though considering the fancy rat is derived from the wild rat and the two could, technically, interbreed.

Keep your house rodent proof. Put out traps, if necessary.

Wild rats can carry diseases which they can then transmit to your pet rats. By allowing them to interact, you're putting your pet rats at risk. Don't let your rats come into contact with wild ones anymore---use as humane traps as possible.
It's natrual for rats to accociate with thier own kind even if they are wild. If they are not causing any problems i would leave them there. But if they are needed to be gotten rid of i would use a regular rat trap. Dont uses the glue traps or poison those are slow deaths.
Lol my girlfiend had two white mice, she kept in an aquarium, one morning got up to leave for work and there was a wild mouse in there with em. I thought it was slightly hilarious
I set mouse traps to catch them then he gets caught in the aquarium. she didn't think it was funny cause he could have gave them rabies or something, but I cracked up halfway to work.
Should have started this story with my EX-girlfriend. Anyway I would recomend Rat traps the kind that snap thier neck or the kind that catches em then you can release them like miles away in the country or something. If you live in the country, sorry .

My family doesn't belive in my goals with horses.?

My goals in life are to become a horse trainer/instucter/barn owner. I've worked hands on, and read everything i can get my hands on about horses. I even created the barn that i wish to have.the only problem is my famiy doesn't belive in me so it seems. They never listen to be, and just laugh at my goal. It's like they think that it's just a dream, not a goal. It really upsets be because i am very determend to make it happen. I just don't know how to make them understand that, so how can i?
Answers:
You go girl. I have the same dream. I help train Quarter Horses I don't have my own. But one day I will. I know A LOT about horses just like you do. I read and have so much experience with them. I would like train a quarter horse to do barrel racing. And one day I will. All I can say is prove your parents wrong. Just keep doing what your doing. Because there's a time and meaning for EVERYTHING If you stick with your goals in life you will be successful good luck to you and god bless.
You don't need to make them understand. Just go do it and laugh at them later!
Follow your dream. I didn't and have regretted it ever since. If they don't support you findd people who do and don't talk about it to those who don't believe.
just ignore wat they say keep working at it and belive you can do it good luck
Honey if that's what you want don't worry about what they are doing go after what you want but remember go on with school. I have a cousin and that was her dream. She went on to school and went and trained at some very good training Barnes. That was over twenty and she owns her own now and runs it. Good luck and hard work will make it happen.
Who cares if they believe. the one one that has to is you. and you already are convinced. so work hard at it.. and forget about them..
when you become successful you will have the laugh, a family is supposed to support you even if your dreams arent realistic (which yours are) so they arent much of a family anyways stop worrying what they think and focus and you will succeed
i know what you mean all my life i have dreamed of working with horses but my dad wants me to be a lawyer but i dont want to be ive never been on a horse but thats my dream to be a great rider! i always read up on them and draw them good luck even if youre family doesnt support you follow your dream/goal
They are insignificant. You know what you're going to do and you'll do it. You don't need their approval it's your life. It doesn't matter what they think of you, It matters what you think. You have your mind and as long as you have your mind, you can make things right again. Find someone who is a horse trainer, and do whatever you can to learn from them. It's a simple plan but if you do it I guarantee you will be a horse trainer. Find someone who is a horse trainer and learn from them, be nice them, whatever you have to do to learn from them within your means. You can do it. If something bad happens or you start feeling discouraged, so what. So What. You know what you want to do and you'll do it. Just decide to and the second you know you're going to everything else will work when you use that drive. Any person who ever did anything great in the world, do research, you'll find that none of them knew how they were going to do it, they only knew they were going to do it.
It's not there goal, it's yours. If they don't believe you can do it, then there isn't much you can do about that. Spend time with people who encourage you and believe in you. and never give up. If you believe you can do it, then you can! Good luck!
if you have your heart set on something then go out and do it if it makes you happy. your family will realize it later that you were not messing around when you told them what you wanted to do.

but first you need to make sure you can do it financally, and emotionally. because once you do it, you won't be able to turn back time you will only have to move forward. raiseing horses, running your own barn, and training will take alot out of you. i use to do all of that about 10 yrs ago and i will tell you i did not have much time for anything else or for anyone else. but if you have this goal then go out and fulfill your goals but just keep in mind that you will have to be able to afford to do it. it is very expensive and a lot of time consuming goal. but like i said if that is your goal than go out and accomplish it.

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR GOAL.
It's always nice to have parental approval, but the bottom line is that you don't need it to succeed.

If you want to be a horse trainer, be a horse trainer. I'm sure they will be proud when you succeed.

I suggest that you take a couple of business classes. Land ain't cheap (at least around here) and regardless of how good a trainer you are or how nice a facility you have, you will still have to exercise sound business practices to stay in operation and succeed in your goal.
who cares what ur family thinks. if it is what u want to do, then go ahead and do it. Screw everyone else. do what u can to keep up with ur learning. take lessons, read as much as u can. the hard work will eventually pay off.
Whose life are you living? Yours or theirs? Live your life, fulfill your dreams, reach your goals!

In the end you HAVE to live with yourself, you do not have to live with them!

Good luck! You have convinced me that you can do it and I don't even know you!

Okay.that was a little rah rah rah cheerleaderish wasn't it? LOL
I am on the other side of this same situation. My little cousin is 12 years old and convinced she should be a horse trainer. I try to be very supportive, but in the back of my mind I have reservations. Here are some of my concerns.
Horses are a luxury item. There is no current need for them (although with gas prices and dwindling supply, horses may make a comeback) and only the very rich can afford to keep one. So there is no real job security. Lots of horse people, fewer and fewer horses to train.
Which brings me to money. Property taxes are going to skyrocket as the population of the world continues to increase, any space on this planet will be at a premium. As it is, farms and ranches "go under" everyday because they just can't support themselves. Feed bills and all other assorted bills will rise as well.
It's dangerous. Of course walking across a street is dangerous and people are killed in their own beds, but horses that like you can kill you by accident.
You are young. You have so many options. I'm sure you have heard a kid say they want to be a fire truck when they grow up, or a dog. I think your family (while they could definitely respect your interests, opinions and feelings a little more) think this is a phase you will grow out of. Talk to them. Tell them this is important to you and you want them stop laughing and pay attention.
On the other hand, horses are not leaving this world. It is possible you could make a very comfortable living for yourself, I wish you the best in all you do.
Follow your dream. My grandaughter is 15 yr old and is in olympic training in jumping. She started to ride at thr age of 6. She just had an event in Lexington Ky. where she placed 8th out of 469 riders of which 52 were the best in the world. She trains with the olympic team. Her dream was to ride in the olympics for the U.S.A. she still has 2 more years to train for you have to be 18 yr old to ride in the olympics. She also is an instructor and teaches other kids to ride. Making a good living at it this soon in life. She is ranked 24 in America by Event magazine. I could tell you a lot of stories about riding and events some good some bad.Like I said follow your dream,it can be expensive though.
There are very good schools where you can get a degree in horse management. I know a young lady who just graduated and now manages a dressage stable in GA. I grew up in a non-horse family. My mom was scared of them and discouraged me in every way about following my dreams about horses. I didn't let anyone stop me from following my dreams and after a lot of hard work I made them come true! I am sitting here right now at the Paso Fino Grand Nationals in Perry GA. I have had an incredible career that centers around horses and I get to travel all over the country to the big shows. I go to the Arabian Nationals next in Louisville KY. I LOVE my job and it has been very financially successful. Follow your heart and never be discouraged but be willing to work hard and it WILL come true!
When you do it you'll be the one with the last laugh.

Just keep on working toward what you want, go to school and study for it.
Do as your heart wants.. some people just dont understand
It shouldn't matter what they think this is your dream not theirs, they should support you but even if they don't you should follow your dreams. Follow your dream and show them you were serious and that you can do it with or without them if they want to be that way you'll be the one with the last laugh. I'm saving money to buy another horse no one thinks I'll be able to do that either but I'm gonna prove to them the same way you will prove to your family and friends.
Believe in yourself, and eventually others will follow. You seem pretty determined, and you know what you want, that's a great start. It's always best to do what you love, not what others think would be best for you.

My english saddle is badly discolored!?

the lady i bought it from said they are just water spots but i don't think so.
I have pics of the saddle but i don't know how to put them on here. so if you think you can help and want to see the pics, e-mail me.
thanks!
Answers:
If the saddle was well cared for it probably wouldn't have gotten water spots. If that's all they are they may eventually go away but it may mean she didn't keep it oiled and it was dried out at one point. If she just slapped a caot of oil on to pretty it up to sell it will quickly dry out again. Keep a very close eye on it and oil it often. Make sure it doesn't have any wear spots like cracks which can weaken straps and make them dangerous. I hope it works out well and the leather is still good
P.S. I ride in rain and have even swam my horse in my saddle and it's never effected the color or condition
Nothing wrong with the dog, it's just the way she/he was bred. Might not be a good showdog, tis all
lol the person above me is hilarious..(this is for pet.) an english saddle is for a horse.not a dog

ok anyways..back to your question.put on the half chap wax on it to see if the spots go away. i ride myself, the wax help help protect it.but it will also tell you if its just a water spot. a regular scratch or mark on your saddle wont go away with the wax. if it dosnt go away, then call up the person who sold it to you and tell them that you want your money back

sorry for the inconvience of your saddle
there may not be much you can do, I rode once in the rain when i was young and it seemed the spots may have worn off eventually over time I only can really remember using saddle soap and maybe a leather conditioner. The person who sold you the saddle should have recommended something anyways, but you could also try to bring it to a shoe repair place or someone who works w/ leather before you ask for your money back. good luck!
To try to give the saddle a more even color coat you could try putting neatsfoot oil on it, it will also help if you clean and condition your saddle a lot!
sorry dont know if my other answer went through
i repair and refurbish horse tack so if you can email me a pic i might be able to help you

My dwarf is sick?

I need some advice until i can get to the vet in the AM, He has had a problem with his eye for a couple of days and it is swollen around the eye and today when i went to pick him up i noticed his back side is greasy ( not wet) looks like he isnt cleaning himself ? Can anyone help??
Answers:
it sounds like you have wet tail. i wouldn't recommend using any human medicine on him. the only thing i can tell you is to keep is eye cleaned with warm water. if you can brave it enough do the same with his rear. make sure there is no body fluids leaking out. keep a close eye on him/her. make sure she doesn't get dehydrated.

if you can get some plain pedalyte put some in his water bottle to help fight off dehydration and possible wet tail.

the eye could be conjunctivitis.

if he keeps having bedding stinking to his bottom clean that out and put paper towels in his cage. keeps the cage cleaner and his/herself clean too.

most important make sure he is eating and drinking and staying active. if starts to become lethargic keep a close watch on him/her. make sure he stays warm if cold. you may have to hold him or find some heat source. do not use a heating pad. too much for his small body. hamster can dehydrate within 20 minutes. keep water in him.

MOST IMPORTANT: TAKE TO VET FIRST THING IN THE MORNING!!
jerk it off.he'll be cool hon;)
dwarfs typically don't like to be away from munchkin land for too long.
Probably been kissing Snow White again
Dwarfs go to regular family doctors.LOL
Get that baby to the ( burp ) Vet?..he is faking about being sick..( hic ) drop the little pecker head off at the bar.. there's a girl here that can help him get fixed..
You can legal own a dwarf? That is so cool. Ever since I seen Kid Rock with little Joe C. I wanted one. Then Big %26 Rich had one in their show.

if you don't mind me asking where did you get it from? Can you buy one so I can have my own little mini Acidcrap? Or do you have to dress them up yourself?
PLEASE WATCH CAT CLOSELY THROUGH OUT THE NIGHT BUT DO TAKE YOUR CAT FIRST THING TOMORROW TO THE VET. SORRY CAN'T HELP YOU NOW LIKE AT THIS VERY MOMENT. BUT SOUNDS LIKE A PROBLEM SO PLEASE TAKE CAT TO GET SOME MEDICAL ATTENTION ASAP.
maybe the Wizard can help..follow the yellow brick road
He probably has wet tail. I would go to the pet store and get him some wet tail drop and give them to him. Unforutnately, once a hamster get sick, the chance of them making it are slim.
Your hamster does need to see a Vet soon the symptoms are those of "WET TAIL" keep the hamster dry and clean his bottom with a damp cloth then dry it well. Good Luck.
PS If people don't have an honest helpful answer they should not type an answer at all.

my dwarf hamsters fur is oily and he is scraching alot . whats going on?

to day when i came home i noticed my dwarfs fur was oily and he keeps scraching.. i want to know what is wrong with him.. please help.. he looks uncomfterble.
Answers:
if u r using pine or cedar bedding? change it immediately to carefresh or aspen as he may be having an allergic reaction. is the oiliness %26 scratching on his hip spots? sometimes they can become blocked or just itchy. too many seeds/nuts can cause a reaction too as mentioned so make sure u arent giving too many of those. do u see any black specs--mites? if u made the changes and it's still going on take him to a vet.
i think mayb he has a fleas or some sort of skin condision better take him to the vet.
Hi!

I know that from keeping hamsters and rats that oily skin can be caused by too many nuts in his/her diet. Also sunflower seeds. Anything that is a treat and is fed too much can cause oily fur. The oily fur should not cause him to itch though. It may be that your wee man has got some lice which can be casued by nad sawdust or not changing regularly enough. If in any doubt go to vets.
try getting a damp towell ( make sure its not too damp! ) and clean him. he may be scratching alot beacuse his hair is getting all clumped up and he wants to clean it. look under his coat to see if there is anything stuck underneath like shavings or hay. If it gets too bad then take him to a vet! Good Luck! =]
thats just the natural oil so brush its hair

My dwarf hamsters are suddenly fighting. Is there a chance they'll get along again?

They had been living together since they were born, and all the sudden, one of them has started attacking the other. (I've since separated them). Is there any way I can get them to be in the same cage together again?
Answers:
More than likely they wont be able to live together. Ive got a couple Dwarf Hamsters. They are really good pets. And If i ever try to put them together they fight, even if its a girl and boy. If you want to hamsters that will live together, buy a girl and boy(but only if you dont mind having babies) Or 2 girls. I hope this helped! If youve got any questions then email me at.. cowgirl_rock@hotmail.com
they may have gotten along as babies, but most likely they'll start to fight as adults. if its a male and a female, they'll try to have sex with each other and may fight a lot, especially if one has babies and then the father with rape the younger daughters. Sometimes the males will fight a lot too. I suggest you keep them in separate cages, because they'll try to eat each other.
What is their sex? If they were mating, once they are done, they'll be fine. For awhile. If they're both males, it's a dominance thing, and if you add a female, they'll either sort it out or one will be killed.
When I was younger, I had two hamsters that I thought were FIGHTING too! But.. They ended up having babies. I didn't think to separate them and the papa ate the babies except for one. Then my little brother left the cage open and, they all escaped. Never saw them again.
Young male hamsters will fight for dominance when they hit sexual age, and intill one gives-up they will keep fighting for the right to be the dominant one. KEEP THEM SEPARATED!
This happened with our guinea pigs. Once they start fighting there is no way they will get along again. It is only with males and it is a testosterone thing. I know this for a fact as we had to separate ours for the same reason.
I think you should seperate them. if you don't want each one of them will die, just seperate them.
it's possible. although most dwarfs get along and like company, sometimes it just doesnt work out. was it serious fighting? they tend to fight to decide who's dominant and this can be very noisy but doesnt actually invlove a lot of contact. if the squabbles are short and sparadic with little physical contact this is normal behaviour and they should be left to sort things out. if however, the fighting is very physical and prolonged (blood or cuts) then it may be that they don't get along and will have to stay separated.

what kind of cage do u have? maybe if u got a bigger one or added a 2nd one to it, they would have more room and would get along. they could each have their own space this way.

My dwarf hamster?

My two Campbell Dwarf hamster live in the same cage. They used to fight, but now they never do. Stuart has a problem with his right eye! It's seems to be irritating him. I tried using a warm washcloth to soothe it,but it didn't help. What do i do for my poor lil' baby!?!
Answers:
AACK don't use neosporin in his eye, its petroleum base hold bacteria. Use disinfectant solution for contact lenses.2x daily, and remove as much goo as you can w/ a warm clean cloth. Do not use cedar shavings. Alot of people like the smell, but many small rodents are allergic to them, pet stores still sell it because if your pet is not affected, it repels fleas. Alot of doggie beds are stuffed w/ it.
take him to a vet, and see what they can do.
Either:

Buy a new kind of bedding. [pine bedding or woodshavings have been known to irritate small animals, especially their eyes and noses :( ]

or Take him to a vet. There might be something wrong.
The hamster may have an infection from previous battles or it may be old and about to pass on and taking him to the vet may be futile. We generally find from past experience that small animals get a major infection that starts in the eye or the rear area and does not clear up.Keep the wound clean and apply a tiny amount of Neosporin or Bacatracin. This is what we advise people that come into the shop. Researchers are finally doing work to come up with medications for small animals like gerbils mice and hamsters. Don't use cedar bedding but any other bedding is OK.
take him to the vet!

My dwarf hamster was lay on her back looking dead but soon come round with a poke, is it normal?

My roborovski hamster was lay on her back in her tube she appeared to be dead she didn't look as if she was breathing, she's never done this before and is quite an old hamster. Is it normal that they can go into catatonic states or is it a symptom that she might actually be sick. She doesn't look unwell and has a good appetite
Answers:
In my personal experiance, I think it's just how she or he decided to sleep. I had a similar scare when I found my girl sleeping like that in the middle of the cage. I hastely picked her up and she sprung up and looked kind of dazed about what had just happened. She got kind of mad because of the quick reaction, so I sat her down and she went back to the same postion and took a nap. Or if your house is too cold it might be hibernation. if you think so add apeice of felt that was warmed in the microwave, or a sock with rice in it straight from the microwave. Maybe a heating pad under the cage(on low). Since their bodies are so small their temputure is delicate. If she is to hot this could also be a result. Do the felt or sock ,but let it stay in the freezer in a ziplock for a couple hours. And packs of frozen veggies under the cage. Even a fan aim just above the cage would help get the air moving. Just be sure not to point the fan directly on them.
She was probably in a deep sleep, and they do hibernate.
She might have been hot. My Ferrets used to sleep on their backs, legs splayed out when the temperature in their room got a little warmer than normal (74-78 F). During Hurricane Charley, I had to buy a generator and room AC for them.
you have a dwarf hampster! awww its probibly just getting ready to hibernate, just put in extra stuff for it to burrow. try cotton balls and more shavings. jsut dont cover the food cuz it will forget about it and stop eating. 鈽?ok well hope taht helps!
i think its maybe not normal (what is normal) but it is ok. i have had about 30 (give or take) hamsters and their were always 1 or 2 that would do that and they were fine.

My Dwarf hamster just had babies and I need help?

My dwarf hamster just had a litter of three. and she moved all of them down to the bottom of the cage but one. Why did she leave one of them by itself? Can I save or move it?
Answers:
I would call a pet store and ask them for help/advice on taking care of them.
maybe that hamster is the lucky one or maybe it is doomed. good luck

no no no dont touch it, then if she smells you on it she will eat it! My dwarf hamster had 11 babies! at one time! just let her do her thing, shes their mommy so she knows what she is doing. Best of Luck!
Okay, my Dwarf Hamster just had babies also, She moved them around ALOT! and it made me mad cuz she would put them up in a really high tower, welll after a little while she would separte one ( She had 4) and then she would have 2 separted, the best advice I can give you is just to check very seldom on them to see if she is taking care of that one and if she is then don't worry a bit, if she isn't I would maybe try taking a plastic ( this is what I did once cuz I was scared she wasn't taking care of them.Well she was) plastic cup and move it with the others, She will probabley separte them again. But I donno about the cup thing, it worked for me, but I don't want you mom hamster to get all mad. You might just want to call a vet, and ask them if you could move them.
So yea, I bet you hamster will be a good mommy and take really good care of the babies, Just like mine did
My babies are 11 days old and there eyes are half way open and the are walking and trying to eat normal food, Just to let you no whats coming up.
Oh Yea, And just make sure you DO NOT touch the babies, the mom will probabley disown them ar eat them if you touch.
Hope this helps a bunch! =D
No, don't move it. That happend to my hamster and she wound up getting the baby after a bit - if you're super nervous, put on latex gloves and *gently* move the baby closer to the nest; be prepared for momma to get nasty if she feels you're threatening her babies. Make sure the room the cage is in is warm and relatively quiet and that momma has plenty of fresh water and food - she's nursing and needs the nourishment. She also needs extra protein so I used to put a dog bone in the cage - great protein and I don't have to trouble her too much too make sure she has a constant supply. DON'T touch the babies until they are a month old or the mom will reject them or possibly eat them. Also, take the wheel out of her cage for now - the babies can get hurt on it. I had one who nested under the wheel at 4 weeks old and died when the mom used the wheel.

Good luck!
my hamster just had three babies too! If after a really long time, like the whole day and it's still there, what you can do is use a plastic spoon that has no smell on it (please don't use your hand) to scoop up the hamster and place it in the mother's nest when she is not watching and when she is far away from her nest. You can feed her a piece of cheese to distract her and bring her to the place that you want her to be, so that you can return the lost baby to the nest. Hope this helps.

My dwarf hamster just had 3 babies, what do I do?

I have no idea what to do. How lond should the babies stay with their mother? How do you tell the sex of a baby dwarf? Please Help!
Answers:
OKay listen up I've had 17 hamsters so i know.
Seperate the dad to a diffrent cage, Leav the mom with the kids till you see the kids start eating and drinking by themselves. Usually they are somewhat covered in fur by this time, then you can turn the little ones over and look. You'll see 2 holes if they are very close together and look almost like just 1 big hole its a girl if the are further apart its a boy. Seperate the girls and boys into diffrent cages and then if you want the possibility of more kids you can put the dad back in with the mom otherwise keep them seperate. After awhile you need to either give them away of you need to Seperate all the boys because they will fight.
Hope this help.
You just keep feed %26 water down for her. She will do the rest.
Aww. Leave the little babes with Mom for a few weeks. By then you will be able to tell if any of them are male by the degree of their aggression. Males try to take over. If you separate them when this starts happening the females can live together peacefully.
Good luck.
apparently it's fairly hard to tell what sex they are. a frined of mine bought waht was supposed to be a male %26 2 weeks later, she had babies. i think they had to stay with the mom for 4 weeks-- might ask a pet store for sure.
good luck
Let nature handle it. When your female hamster gets tired of them nursing, she will let them know. When they are weaned be sure to separate them or you may wind up with more babies.
feed and give the mother hamster but live her alone she doesn't want ppl to touch her babies or she will not care for them them but when they have hair u should but them in diffrent cages from fighting or mating or if u want more hamster but they still drink milk from there mother unitl a few weeks or months but, im not sure how to tell the gender of the babies
How neat!
Do not touch them. Dwarf hamsters live in society's, not like a standard hamsters. The male and female both take care of the babies. It has been a while since I breed these but if I remember correctly it is like three weeks. You can leave them in with there family until you want to separate them or one causes fighting. Also give them plenty of room if you are going to leave them all together. No room and they will start fighting for room. These are so small though they do not take much room, or food etc. There will be a alpha male and alpha female. You will notice that the females have close openings -- and the males have a space - - . when they get breeding age you will really notice the difference!
When selling these or giving them away and if you care where they go always remember these are snake food as well. Very high fat content. Ask the person you are selling them to or giving them to if you don't want them to be food. Some peeps are not honest but you can tell if they are lying, even if they have kids with them. Learned this the hard way.
Lucky you! Congratulations!
Look at the "bottom"..I do not no how long they stay with thier mother..

my duck layed 2 eggs this morning What do I do?

I only have 1 duck .never had a duck
Answers:
She fooled you, she had one hidden they only lay one a day at the most. Since you only have one duck you should probably take the eggs and eat them. They are real good in cookies and cakes. 1 duck = 2 chicken eggs. If you want her to be a mother you will have to get a male duck.
leave them alone.. im pretty sure it will try to attack you if you get near its eggs. a chicken did that to me. haha. it was funny..
Pick them up wash them then boil them and eat them a little stronger than a chook egg but still delicious
put them in an incubator and hatch it.
Uhm.well, if you want two more ducks, you can let her hatch them.
If you don't, take the risk of getting attacked and get some breakfast.
I'd go with the first choice--you don't want to mess with a momma duck.

my duck kepts layin eggs..how do I stop this? I don"t want anymore ducks?

Answers:
She'll still lay eggs without a male duck around,,,Collect the eggs everyday, you can feed them to your dog, or eat them yourself.Or just toss them in the trash.
* your duck.Thereafter no more eggs. But may get something different.
STOP LETTING HER MATE
take the lustful male duck away
Have it for sunday dinner
serve the male duck fer dinner
take her to the vet's and see if she can be fixed. if not, keep the male away from her at all times.
Laying eggs is fine, I've heard that they're excellent for baking cakes. Having the male fertilize them is your problem. Either find the drake a new home and get her a female companion, or build a separated cage for the two with a common wire wall. Drakes can be quite forceful however, and rehoming him to a duck hatchery or as a watch pet might be your best idea. Trade him for a female.

My drawf lop rabbit's urine is really yellow and cloudy, is that normal?

Answers:
This is generally referred to as 'slush' in the urine. It's caused by too much calcium in your rabbits' diet. " The high levels of urinary calcium may precipitate into insoluble crystalline salts, resulting in cloudy urine". (Dr. Peter G. Fisher)

Are you feeding Alfalfa based pellets and Alfalfa hay? If so, your rabbit is getting too much calcium (Alfalfa is VERY high in protein and calcium). You should be feeding an Alfalfa based pelleted feed (with no seeds or 'goodies' in it---just a basic plain green pellet) and providing an endless supply of Timothy Hay.
yes
The rabbit is a bit dehydrated, you need to give it more clean water. If you use tap water make sure it is not chlorinated as this will put the rabbit off.
Yeah. My rabbit's urinates the same color. I thought she was having her period at first because sometimes it gets darker like dark brown, but it's her hormones.
Urine from normal rabbits usually contains large amounts of a light-colored sediment and may appear abnormal to the uninitiated. The color of normal rabbit urine varies from white, to yellowish-white, to light brown. rabbits that drink large quantities of water tend to produce clearer urine containing less sediment.
Rabbits that have been recently treated with antibiotics and those undergoing significant stress may temporarily produce urine that is orange or redt inged. Such urine can be differentiated from that which accompanies urinary tract infections or uterine bleeding by use of a urinalysis, performed by a veterinarian

My dog scotty .has a male cat for house mate.they do every thing together. is it strange or just me?

Answers:
No, just a good companion. Fuzzybutt (the cat I still own) and Lucky (golden lab, went to a friend who lost his to cancer) were best buds. FB would get up in the morning to go find Lucky and promptly smack the snot out of his face, and Lucky would then grab FB and give him a bath. Nothing worse than having to give a dog hairball remedy, but just could not keep the two of them apart. If FB hid for too long Lucky would go hunt him down, even trying to wiggle under the bed to get to him. If they get along as good as it sounds, just shrug you shoulders, say I don't get it, and enjoy the fact that they get along and are not tearing down the house fighting.
Nothing wrong with that, that I can see.
it is in't just you some dogs and cats like each other and like to do things together.
That's great, some dogs and cats hate each other!
I love to see these kind of interspecies friendships. It makes one realize how silly we humans are to discriminate on the basis of something as silly as the color of another's skin.

Yeah, we have ten cats (a large clean house) and a house rabbit (giant American Chinchilla) and they all get along. It's not unusual to see the rabbit cuddled up to one of the cats. We also babysit our grand dog during the day while our daughter and her husband work. The dog thinks the rabbit is the greatest thing that ever happened and the rabbit loves the dog.

Geez, the funny things that can happen when everyone plays nice! Enjoy the scenery in your house. Sounds like a very loving place to be.
I don't see any thing wrong with that. I'm sorry to say but its just you.
not at all my cat is nuts about my dog she eats his food and she sleeps with him she plays with onyx and he is a blacklab
Nothing strange to me. I have a 110 pound male Akita that has raised and lived with 4 cats over the years. The one cat still curls up on his side and sleeps. He won't get up until she wakes up.
Only nervous moment we had was when she was small and tried to nurse , bit him instead (on the only thing she could find ) all he did was growl and nudge her away. Never snipped at her.
They all eat together - though he will hog the water dish in the summer.
thats fabulous my cat took to a draught horse they spent time together.

My dog needs an echocardiogram. Does anyone know of low cost clinics in chicago area for animals?

My husband is terminally ill, money has been so tight, as I have to stay home with him now. My four children are so worried. Elmo our dog has been with us since his birth, and he's family. I took him to the vet last week, and they said he has a very serious murmor, and enlarged heart. He needs to be seen. I made a couple of calls..the best answer was $1200. for the echo and the reading, visit with the specialist. I am looking for a place in the chicago area or suburbs that would reduce costs or take payment plans..ect. Thank you for your help in advance!
Answers:
I have had echo's done on several dogs over the years at a University vet clinic, with a visit and reading by a board certified cardiologist, and it is usually around $400. Either you are getting ripped off, or there is more to it. I do not think there are low cost clinics that offer echo. It is pretty specialized and you need the consult with the cardiologist.
Your other option is to have your vet give their best guess as to what it is and treat accordingly. It may not be ideal, but at least the dog can get some treatment.
I also doubt that a Humane Society has an echo, let alone a cardiologist.
There are some good universities in your area. Find one with a veterinary school and see if they would do the test at a discount. Some vet schools need "patients" for their students to practice procedures. These procedures are always overseen by a veterinarian, who many times does the test to demonstrate the technique to the student. Good luck.
Call the Chicago Humane Society. I have just read that they are opening their clinic to the public on a sliding scale.

My DOG Is SOME MAD at my GIRLFRIEND !! She Has Begun Drinking From HIS BOWL And Even Leaves It Empty !!?

Geronimo even circles around her and barks while she is lapping it down (up?) and it has no effect. As a result, he has gone on strike about fetching balls and sticks out in the yard. --I toss one out and he just hikes his leg on a rose bush and lets fly in making a comment about what I want him to do.

I asked my GF why she is doing this and she just grins and says that I need to get into diversification training like she is at her college. I told her that was a rediculous application of the training--that the instructors didn't mean to include animals--and she got mad and told me she was humping for an "A" in the course and to get my head straight. She then cut me off from my, ah, pleasures with her.

I asked about Geronimo's empty bowl and his thirst because of her thoughtlessness and she said that was just "tough love" she was practicing and that Geronimo should learn how to use a tap if anything should happen to me.

GOSH! Both my dog and GF are out with me!

What to do ?
Answers:
It must have taken a lot of time and thought to write such an odd question. I hope you are joking. If not, your gf is very strange (no offense) It's really gross to drink out of a dogs bowl, and to say the dog needs to learn to use the tap? That's ridiculous.

To add: lol at the person that said the dog will go medieval on your gf..I chuckled at that one. Perhaps the dog will use aversion therapy with her? The dog should whack her on the head with a newspaper every time he catches her drinking out of his bowl..lol
Loved it. You need to be a columnist.
wow i dont understand it man
You make no sense.
She hasn't started drinking from the toilet bowl has she? Don't worry about your dog, he will soon get tired and just go medieval on her.
Sounds like Geronimo needs a GF to get his mind off the empty water bowl. Let him drink from the toilet. I doubt if your GF would want to drink from that bowl.
Dayam! I've heard of girls being called dogs and b itches, but that's ridiculous! I'd find another gf, fast! Unless you're into that sort of thing?
Sound like you got the makings of a YouTube video!
Take the smart dog's advice, get a new girlfriend. The dog is thirsty! And she doesn't care about others!
Your Girlfriend must be a Dog then

My dog is jealous of my new pet hamster. my dog wont even look at me when im with my hamster is there any.

thing wrong what should i do i love my hamster more than my dog.
Answers:
Time, it takes time.
Give the dog up for adoption.
The dog is abviously jealous. :-P

Ditto to that. You should probably give it up for adoption.
I sugest spending more time with you're dog. You may not love him as much but he is just as important as your hamster
if you do not want your dog give him/her to the local shelter where someone will give it a good home.
if you dont think the dog is getting the attention it wants and needs, than give it to someone who will really take care of it.
i think u should luv ur dog better than a hamster
Get real!! either let the hamster %26 the dog get familiar or give the poor dog to someone who will understand what a dog needs. Hamsters don't have feelings that your dog has. I am an animal lover. Obviously you are not.
our cat had some issues when the hamster boys came to live with us but she was mostly annoyed by their behavior and got adjusted in less than a week
If you know for a fact you love the hamster more then your dog, consider giving up your dog up for adoption, but think about how long you've had your dog to how long you'll have the hamster.

my dog is died yesterday 10 years and 谋m missing it so much what am 谋 gonna do without it?

Answers:
Sorry you lost your dog. it is hard to loose a dog. i had a pup (Casper) about 3 months ago go missing. he was a good dog. i still miss him but after awhile it'll get better. its weird! i lost him and then a few weeks later found a bunch of pups outside a dumpster.but ill always miss miss him though.Ill never forget him.
Go adopt a shelter animal as a replacement. You'll make their life and your dogs happier by saving them from death in a shelter.
im sorry sweetie, the only thing that will heal you is time. i know that stinks but when you lose something you care about there is a void and only time can fill it.

maybe when you are ready you can get another dog and learn to love it as well, and give it a good home where it can be cherished and valued.
Well you certainly aren't going to play catch now are you
i know its hard.but the best thing to do probably would be to share your life with a needy puppy or dog from the pound. Im sure you would find much happiness saving one of their lives and your dog would be happy to know that you did as well.
either bye a new pet or do something else to not think about it
Go to shelter and save one. You need a new pet!
get one thats the same!his spirit will always be around ,dont be sad he in a better place dogy heaven
I feel your pain sweetie. I found that a new pet can be a good idea -- not another dog right away though. You can't expect your new friend to replace the one you lost.
I love pets also don't let anyone tell you it was only a Dog go thru the grieving process just like a family member good luck
You should do something you like to do more like a hobby. i love to skateboard and do BMX racing in my spare time. or maybe you might want to try something new.
Dude, I'm so sorry for your loss. Grieve for it like you would for a person. Pets are like a member of the family too. Write a letter to him to tell him how much you love him and how much you will miss him.
Time heals all wounds. I have lost several dogs and the best you can do is give it a proper, respectful burial and remember the good times. Don't replace your dog with another right away, give it time. If you were a good pet owner, take solice in knowing that you gave him the best life and home possible.
My little puppy girl of 10 years died 2 Christmases ago. It's sad, really really sad, but all you can do is deal with it. Just go somewhere alone where your dog used to spend all of their time and just let it all out. When I buried her it was a full moon that night so every time I see the moon I think of her. I just hope that she's happy and I can't wait to see her again when I die.
I am so sorry feller. Mine was ate by a big dog 3 weeks ago and I have now realized she aint coming back even though I burried her. Time heal hun, keep your mind busy. I wanted another dog but thats not the answer. You need time to greive, and another dog won't replace it. You will survive Buddy. Try and stay busy, hang with family and friends.
I am soooooooooooo sorry. This to shall pass Bud!
Hang in there!
you will pull out ur hankie, and you will fryyyyyyyyyyyyyy oops, cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!.

seriously, let it all out. it was dear to you. i hate reading these type of questions, it makes me so sad.

i really don't know what i can say.if i had a pet that died, i don't know..what would i do?
I agree, go adopt another dog. It will make you feel much better than you think.
My husband accidentally ran over our 6 yr old cat. Our daughter gave us a kitten from the Humane Society, he is still with us after almost 8 yrs. and we love him just as much.
Go, go on. The sadness will leave you much faster if you do! It certainly surprised me.
Sorry, try not to be sad. There is another dog out there that needs you just as much as you need him or her.
Good Luck!
Losing a pet is hard. Don't run out and get another dog yet. The dog will sense that something is not right and it can cause behavior problems later. And it's not fair for the new dog to have to come in and try to replace a good friend so soon. Just give it time and you'll start to feel better. When you think you're ready see about adopting a dog from an animal shelter. You'll get a good friend and you'll be saving a life.
many shelters offer grief counseling for the loss of a pet. it may help.

my dog is acting alot like a cat, he is OBCESSED with the hamsters, why?

I have 2 hamsters, Stalin and Gorby, only problem is that the dog is really interested in them, like when ever hes in my room, he can not stand to be out of sight of the cage, he needs to know whare the cage is at all times, once it is opened, he will pop his head inside, and once he sees a hamster, he shoots back and no longer wants to be near tha hamsters, he doesnt do the same for the rats, as a matter of a fact, i had him on my futon while i was standing holding stalin i think, and the dog was shivering, he didnt like the fact that the hamster wasnt in the cage, i cant explain his reaction, i mean the hamsters arent evil, but bobby, the dog's name, is obcessed with the hamsters, the rats, he could care less, but its the hamsters, like when he falls asleep in my room, the cage is covered during the day sometimes, and he hears the pop from the metal cage door opening, he litterally jumps up and begins glaring, i dont see why he can be so obcessed with them.
Answers:
Lots of dogs are like that. My dog prefered mice to hampsters though! LOL! He probably thinks that they are fun things to play with, and then once he sees them, he gets bored. Dogs like to investigate things, and find new things to do each day. He may be like this for quite awhile, but eventually, he will get bored, trust me. I hope this helped!
Some breeds of dogs are natural hunters of small furry things, so maybe it's in his blood.
Is he a terrier? You dont say but terriers have a strong prey drive. They were first bred to hunt rats and mice.
Yeah, alot of doga ARE like that. Since you dont have cats he probably hasn't had interaction with that many of them so instead he looks a hamsters like he would cats. My dog is like that as well, she has to see the cat at all times and when she can't she's on edge. Animals have their own language but it's nothing to worry about.

My dog is 8yrs old and I'm thinking about getting a new pup,do you think they'll get along?

Answers:
The dogs should get along, depending on personality. Just remember, a pup has a lot more energy then your current dog. You also need to keep in mind that your first dog was there first. While newer puppies tend to ask for more attention then your older dog, make sure to set aside time for your 8 year-old. Take a walk with him, or play with him in a seperate room.

Also be sure to introduce the two gradually. If you throw a pup in with an older dog, the puppy will start to annoy the other dog. Don't leave them completely unsupervised for at least a few months.
Well, i think it depends on the type of dog they are and what size they will grow up to be! because i have a golden retriever and a miniature snauzer and they play alot and get along just fine but when it gets out of hand you have to do something about it
It really depends on the activeness of your dog. If he would rather lounge around, and you think he might get upset over a puppy pouncing at him, pulling on his ears n' such.then I'd wait until he lives out his life, before bring home a puppy.
I cuold also suggest getting a dog, instead of a puppy. Less active, so it could work out better that way.
It all depends on the temperament of your 8yr old.
No one can answer this with out the knowledge of the dog you already have.
it depends on wut dog your gettting and 1 thing look at the dogs face 2 see if its nice or not
Is is a girl or boy dog? It is a proven fact, girl and boy dogs get along better than a boy and boy or a girl and a girl. But to answer your question, I think they should be fine just let the 8 yr. old get used to the pup, It may be weird and they may fight at first but they will smooth it out over time. To get your puppy, you should go to your local ASPCA adopt the dogs!

"Don't breed or buy, while shelter pets die!"

GOOD LUCK!
it depends on what type of dog it is if its a friendly dog then most likely yes and since its getting old it realy shouldnt care.
That may depend on your dog`s personality. A least, a have a dog of the same age as yours and I`m not getting another one. Im` very happy with her. The choice is yours.
My dog Gracie was about 6 y.o. when we got a 5 week old pup(solomon). She had always wanted a companion before. Then when we got Soly she was upset cuse he was getting loved on instead of her. She couldn't stand him at all coming near her. But as he got older (he's 5 y.o. right now)she loosened up and they play together all the time and sometimes when their really cold they share a really small dog bed. So your current dog might not like at first but she'll change or maybe she like having a rambunctious puppy fried around.
Does your dog get along with other dogs on walks, etc? If so they'll get along. But don't get two males. No matter how much they love each other they can fight - even neutered.
depends on your dog. Also 8 years isn't very old if your dog is fed right.
I've never had a problem with my dogs getting along. One thing is the sexes. If you have unfixed males they will fight and possibly kill each other. Stud dogs can get brutal. Just make sure your studs are neutered. Females are usually fine together. Males and females are fine too. Just expect pups if they're not fixed. Yes, even if you think your dog is too old he or she can still make a breed. My 8 year old Cockerspaniel bred before he died. And just because your dog is 8 doesn't mean he or she will necessarily be kicking the bucket quite yet. I have a 7 year old lab mix who still acts like a hyper pup. Nothing is stopping her. Dogs can live up to 25 years old (rare, but possible)! But usually, as the owner, you will know when your dog is about to go. He or she will give you signs. Good luck with the pup hunt and I hope your senior dog lives and prospers to his or her fullest!
i dont know my older dog didnt like the baby pug that we got. i have to keep them seperated.
Is it eight years in dog years or human? Ok well if the new puppy is the same breed they probably will get along if its an other breed i dont know if they will. email me back at anamkhan97@yahoo.com

Very, very best of luck.
take them to a vet who works only with wildlife and see what he says do at soon as possible those kits won't live long without milk
get goats milk they will tack to it but it will take time . you should remove them from her or she will kill them all.
it depends if they have had any milk from the mother at all because the first feed has lyk essential umm minerals n stuff in so umm if they havent they r pretty much screwed soz chik xx
Rabbits do not like to be disturbed. should of left them. is this her first? try to feed them a high fat milk with sugar
Most petstores [and even walmart] sell a powdered kitten formula with colostrum, it has helped me through several kits that the does rejected. I would not reccomend the same brand that comes in a can though, sometimes it seems to be spoiled.

My degu is shedding, what do I do?

I just got a female degu and she is massively shedding. Is it some health condition or could it simply be the fact that she used to live in a tiny cage with probably little attention from the previous owners? Could it also be the fact that I live in Canada and it's getting really cold now?
Answers:
Just like domestic animals, degus shed twice a year, spring and fall. If you believe she's shedding an unusually high amount, you might want to check to see that you're feeding her the proper diet (guinea pig food, right?). Perhaps you are feeding her the right diet but the previous owners didn't and her that has affected things.

She's probably just getting ready for winter in Canada, though. :-)
If its getting cold she should be getting a THICKER coat, not a thinner one. Dogs can shed as a result of fear, paranoia, anxiety just like humans can lose their hair over the same issues. Its could be a result of a poor diet, what do you feed her? Nutro brand dog food is some of the best out there and I highly recommend it. .In any light you need to schedule an appointment with the vet so they can determine what the cause is. In the mean time invest is a good grooming brush, vacuum, and lint brush. Good luck.
Shedding is normal, unless she has bald spot, the you may have mites, please read this link and research your pet, (O:

my daughters pet hamster has two brown moles on its back, they flat and fur parts over them, what are they,?

the hamster is eating sleeping etc as normal, not in pain.
Answers:
It's amazing no one has answered this correctly.

Those are scent glands. Sometimes referred to as "hip spots", Syrians have scent glands located on each hip. Like other mammals, the Syrian uses its scent glands as a means of marking their territory by rubbing these glands on vertical objects. In the wild, this is known to other hamsters that a marked area is "taken" or "controlled" by the marking hamster. The second use of the scent glands is to create an odor that indicates the hamster is ready for mating. This is used by females in the wild to lure males to their burrows. Occasionally the glands secrete a sticky substance, which is more prominent on the males. This is normal and should not be cause for alarm. On rare occasions however, these glands may become blocked creating a sore and inflamed area. Should this happen to your hamster it is advisable to see a veterinarian.
brown moles..you just told us! lol
Are they fury brown moles ?
every kind of mammal gets moles.ive seen dogs cats deer squirrrels with them.
is his name gismo, did u feed him after midnight, did u get him wet, are u sure he's a hamster.

take to vets for check up
Wow. How big is your hamster? Moles are quite big compared to hamsters arn't they?
there fine i have 4 hamsters and 1 of them has the same thing i took it to the vet and he said that he will be fine its just part of his fur
Not being funny but since nobody can see these so called moles. how the heck is anyone supopsed to tell what they are? Take it to a vet for a diagnosis.
Are the 2 moles where the hamster's hips are? If so, then these are called 'hip spots' and have glands where the hamster produces it's scent from, all hamsters have these but they are more noticable on certain hamsters.
Hi Bigfatz
your poor daughter hopefully its nothing, they may have been there when you got them. If her Hamster is eating and sleeping normal i would just let it alone. I think maybe the vet might irritate them. Good Luck Say Hi to your daughter for me
Sorry to say but i might not be moles!
I think the moles might be cancer, or just tumors. If they start to get bigger then there cancer/tumors. My hamster had a spot and it wasnt a mole. It was a cancer tumor. I ended up letting her go for her last day. (couse i didnt want to have to clean up her body) She was breathing bad and didnt look good. she probibly only had 3 hrs left in her.
Gilly Bean is right, they're scent glands. don't panic!!

My daughters new Hamster wont use the ball.?

We have the Crittertrail cage and the wheel in it is too hard to turn, but we have a ball we put him in. He doesnt seem to like it. He wont run in it. I tried turning it slow enough where he has to move, but when I stop, he stops. What should I do? I believe he is young.
Answers:
Hamsters run at night. They aren't always active when we would like. Try taking it out towards bed time. Also keep other pets and children at a distance. Hamsters are easily scared, they like small safe environments. The more you play with it and the more it is put in the ball the more comfortable it will become.
it's scared of the ball.
He'll warm to it when he gets used to the surroundings and when he doesn't feel threatened, also when he gets bigger he'll be more interested in running around.
As the other person said, he is scared of the ball. Put him in it a couple times a week and he'll get use to it. And the critter trail wheels never work, you need to buy a new one if he likes to run in it.

My daughter's horse bites!?

Does anyone know why and how to get them to stop without abusing them?
Answers:
This is quite a broad question.

When does the horse bite? ie: in the paddock, in the stable, when he's being groomed, when he's being tacked up?

Have you had the horse its whole life? How many owners has it had prior to you if not?

These are all questions that need to be answered.

If you have had the horse its whole life, then is there something worrying him? ie: lameness, any pain at all, you may not necessarily SEE where the horse is hurting if it is. If the horse Bites when tacking up, it could be that the saddle is pinching him, or not fitting correctly - have a Saddler check this out for you. If the saddle is fitting then i suggest you get your vet to do a general "check up" just to make sure there's nothing physically wrong with him, like back pain, lameness, teeth, etc. I realise this may be expensive but it's worth it in the long run
If he bites while being groomed make sure you're using the correct implements - DONT EVER use a steel curry comb on a horse, for example. It could just be that your horse has very sensitive skin and is exceptionally ticklish - this is NOT his fault and you shouldnt reprimand him for it.

Does the horse lay his ears flat back when he tries to bite you, or are his ears slightly forward or to the side?

If his ears are flat, then he's ticked off about something or afraid. This could be for a number of reasons. If you haven't had the horse it's whole life then it could have been neglected or abused at some point, and again, there's not really a whole lot you can do at this point because the instinct to defend himself has become a habit. All you can really do at this point is to watch your back, and watch the horse, dont make eye contact, and when you approach him make sure to stand to his shoulder and not his head, when tacking up do the girth up slowly and try get a leg up as its safer to do the girth up when you are mounted. (safer for you that is)
When grooming, try standing him outside where he can eat grass and just generally be distracted from what you're doing. (My first TB horse was a HORRIFIC biter, in the box he was an absolute nightmare, but once you were on his back he was an absolute dream. just to give you an idea of how bad he was, one time i was putting his blanket on and he lifted his back leg slightly, so i said "No" quite firmly, well the next thing i knew he'd spun around and pinned me in the corner, and was chopping at me like he was going to kill, i have never been so frightened in my entire life! - however, this WAS early on in our rider/horse partnership, and he never did it again, purely because i never EVER challenged him in his box.)

However, if his ears are forward or "floppy" then he's simply playing with you, and would probably be quite surprised if he actually got you. In this case it's not a bad idea to give him a smack, on the shoulder or upper neck, NEVER smack a horse in the face as this WILL cause the horse to become headshy!

Also - if the horse is a gelding, try to find out how OLD he was when he was gelded, horses that are gelded late retain alot of stallion "instinct" and are therefore quite territorial - ESPECIALLY in their paddocks and stables - I would advise NOT challenging the horse in this circumstance.

I'm going to stop here. It is a VAST subject, and I could write PAGES on it. If you would like to contact me, please dont hesitate, i know EXACTLY how it feels to have a horse that bites, I was only 13 when I dealt with the horse I mentioned, I'm now 23 and have had NUMEROUS encounters with biters!!

Either way, I hope this helps you!
Shoot it= glue
Maybe evolution is taking over and horses are becoming carnivorous.
get rid of the horse
I've heard of peope holding sharp objects in their hand, pettin the horse very nicely and then when it goes to bite, let it bite on something sharp, after it hurts itself enough times, it will stop biting.
I believe in the horse whisperer method of training and have been training using this method before anyone knew what it was. Having said that, swift and painful retribution is delivered for biting and kicking. You always keep your eye on your horse and watch the body language. You will see the thought of the bite, watch and you will, before the bite. When you recognize the thought either smack, not hard, or correct with lead by popping it and change the horses mind. Even if a horse is still wanting to bite, they will not if they know you are watching them.
for some reason, usually stallions and sometimes geldings do bite and it can be bad. personally, I would slap him in the mouth hard everytime until he just sees your hand and stops. You can hear them getting ready to bite if you are vigilent. they make an opening jaw sound because they contemplate if before they do it, unlike dogs who bite first and ask later. the only hope you have with a horse is to let them know you are not afraid, if they smell fear, they will take advantage everytime and this is dangerous given 1200-1500 lbs.good luck
Your horse sounds like its stressed and unhappy, anyway all that aside.
I found that simply raising your hand and a ferm 'no' works for me.

I am NOT suggesting hitting the horse, i would never hurt my horses, but lifting your hand will send the horse a clear message.
Some horses do bite.

I don't recommend slapping it in the face like someone suggested above -- you'll end up making the horse head-shy.

Is it an all-out bite, or does it just nip?
If you want to be a frog lover and don't want to hurt the horse, just show it that what its doing hurts. Really loudly say OUCH and pull back. It shows him hes hurting you. It works for dogs. I'd hit it on the nose until it stopped, but that's me and I don't like big animals.
Is this the only horse you have? If so, the horse is depressed, confused and living in an un-natural state, causing him/her to bite in order to gain attention (any kind of attention) or to express his/her negative emotions. Horses are herd animals and require the companionship and relationships of other horses. They exists naturally within a very structured society. Placing another horse with this one will help in so many ways with so many problems.

If the horse is with a group of other horses and bites, he/she may need to "chew" or "crib" on something. Is there hay or forage available all the time? Does the horse chew on other things (fence posts, barn, etc.)? If so, boredom is the cause.

Hope this helps..
I knew a gal whose horse bit her. She bit the horse back and broke him of the habit. Later the horse kicked her and the horse limped for a week.

I knew the horse, too. He was pretty well mannered--no biting or kicking--but real crafty. Funniest thing I ever saw was when he reached over the fence and started scratching a dog's back. The dog knew better, but he closed his eyes and was really enjoying the scratching until the horse got a mouthful of hair and pulled just enough to let the dog know he'd been had. That dog's eyes popped open and he had the funniest look on his face. That horse had a twinkle in his eye and a mouthful of dog until he decided the dog had had enough and let go.
Abusing them?! Isn't this horse abusing you??

Can something more be wrong with this horse then just biting? Are you touching a spot that is bruised? or hurting for some reason?
Has someone who did not no what they were doing messing with this horses head? Pulling on ears or ? Has your daughter have this horse since birth?

Or is this just one of those horses who think people are only there to feed them and do exactly what that horse wants you to do for it?
Is this the head mare?? Only horse? Then was this the lead mare somewhere and they sold it to you to get rid of it??
If this horse is not hurting somewhere, therefor bitting. Then someone needs to teach this horse who is boss! Someone is going to get hurt, or sell this horse! Get one more daughter friendly. Also if this horse hurts someone not only will you feel guilty but the person who may get hurt may want to sue.
Good luck - watch a horse DVD sounds like the advice everyone is giving in here these days.
My gelding got pinched before when he used to put up his back leg when I was doing his tail, noticed I used the words used too, and was. He doesn't do it anymore lol!
This has actually happened to my horse Malachai. He tried to bite me in the face when i bent down to put on him halter. I started to pay more attention to him, ride him more, and when i had free time just go out and "hang" He then turned into my best friend.

Get your daughter to spend more time with him.
Yes-the WORST thing to do is abuse them

I read one time a tip to stop a horse from biting while leading to stretch out a rubberband and hold it ready, let it snap when you see the bite coming.
It is useless to slap at the horse when it bites. You just get a horse that bites and is head shy (yanks its head away from your hands).

Tammy C is correct, that is one method, but the object doesn't have to be sharp exactly. A small plastic braiding comb for horse manes held in the hand will work. Never jab the horse with the comb after a bite, again, it is useless and will make the animal headshy. Let the horse hit again against the comb with its own movement when it reaches to bite. You can adjust the position of the comb, but do not jab. A small toy that buzzes/vibrates or makes a loud noise may work, too.

If you think you're just too slow, try spraying your sleeve with Grannick's Bitter Apple庐 Spray which will leave a bad taste in the animal's mouth.
I've worked with a lot of biters in my life and there are a few methods I'd like to suggest as each horse reacts differently to each method. If the horse is not normally aggressive and just occasionally bites then stop hand feeding treats all together. Surprisingly enough, this alone can sometimes stop a biter. If that does not work try making a sharp noise if the horse tries to bite. This will startle them and generally stop the behavior without having to hit them. Finally if all else fails, I find the last suggestion to work even for the most aggressive horses but I suggest it only be used in a stall. After a horse bites (or tries) you have 3 seconds to make him think that he is going to die. Now, this does not mean you have to hit the horse at all, just mak as much noise, charge at him like you are about to attack him and scare the living bejesus outta him. This makes you the dominant one and rarely does a dominant horse get bit! After these 3 seconds though, go about your normal business as if nothing has happened. Horses don't hold a grudge and neither should you! If he is biting you while you are riding just have that foot ready to put in his mouth (most horses go for the knees and a shoe is most unexpected!) Good luck and let me know how it goes. I have a few other tricks up my sleeves! Just remember you don't have to hit the horse, just make him think that you will!
I used a very bad method on my best friend ( a horse) an now that he is gone, I really wish that I had done it differently. It worked and this was before I learned about the mthod I will suggest to you. My grandfather told me that any time a horse bites you, bite his ear. And I did and after about 3 times, he stopped altogether. I almost broke my jaw doing it once, so it is not only dangerous to do it, it is mean as well.I started reading up on Monty Roberts and listening to his stuff. Now the method that I suggest that you use. This is his method to get a horse to stop biting.

Watch your horse and every time he goes to bite you or if he does bite you, touch your boot to his ankle just under his fetlock. Put a little pressure on it so that it is more than just a touch but not enough to hurt him. After a few times, he will go to bite and then look down at his ankle, because he will be expecting you to touch him there with your boot. This does work, I used this method on my 5 year old Quarab. Whatever method you end up deciding to use on the horse, please make sure that it doesnt involve hitting or smacking with a hand or object, or pinching. Be kind, he is an animal too.
a trainer told me, way back when I was a teen, to pop it UNDER the chin, a good smack when it bit or even attempted to bite (as above, watch for the signals) and it really worked! It doesn't make the horse head shy, as he doesn't see you do anything (under the chin) and under the chin is sensitive, so it doesn't need to be very hard..
My horse was a booger, with several dominant issues, (race horse, gelded at 7 years) and for this to work seemed a miracle..
Abuse is a relative term. But it sounds like you don't want to discipline them. If that's the case, you can purchase a loose fitting muzzle that attaches to the halter by DE snaps. It's like a flattened bowl that fits over his muzzle and stops the horse from actually getting his teeth around anything to bite.

Of course, the horse only wears this while you're working on the ground with it. NEVER unattended.

It won't stop the biting, but it will stop you from getting bitten.

For what it's worth, biting is an expression of dominance, and this horse doesn't have any respect for the people it bites. So you may want to revisit your decision on discipline. Discipline and abuse are two TOTALLY separate things.
There are two possibilities: Her horse may either be bored or in a mood to play. She could talk to him and show him she is angry. Then she could give him something to keep him busy, such as a carrot or an apple.

My daughter's hamster seems to be having trouble mastering his water bottle. Any suggestions?

We have a Super Pet Critter Canteen 16 oz. and he seems to really struggle in getting water out of it. He ends up putting his paws on the end of the nozzle and jerking the whole bottle around as if he's getting frustrated. Have any other Syrian owners found a bottle that works really well?
Answers:
With the Critter Canteens it is hard for thm to get the water. They are spring loaded so they can't push theball enogh to get water. Personaly I got my water bottle at walmart. It is just one with a silver ball at the tip and no springs. It evencame with a holder.
yeah pick him up gently and rub his nose on the end of the water bottle. he will get the idea of the wetness and will take the hint
You could try a small ceramic bowl instead.
How about putting a little peanut butter on the end of the water bottle, as he's licking the peanut butter off the water will also come out. I would think that a couple of tries with this should do the trick, although it might make him addicted to peanut butter, also!
Check to see if the bottle is operating correctly. If the hamster is young, he might need some help getting it figured out.
as Beez said: Check to see if the bottle is operating correctly. If the hamster is young, he might need some help getting it figured out. Great tip. I also suggest a smaller bottle. 16 oz. for a hamster is a tad big. all 7 of mine do well on a 8 oz bottle.
Maybe he doesn't like water?

Try some liquor.

I kid, I kid.

I agree with the guy above me. Try a smaller water bottle.

Good luck!
Along with the other posters' great advice, you can also try a gravity feed bottle instead. They usually come with a holder, and have a glass tube. Instead of having a ball and spring, it's just the tube, and is completely vacuum operated. Especially when dealing with very young hamsters, this can be the best way to go as there's always water at the end of the tube where they can smell it, so they know what it is, and all they have to do is lick at the tube.

my daughters hamster ran away and weve put food out every where, and he wont show up?

SIENCE YESTERDAY WE LOST HIm
Answers:
is it lost outside?
if so ur screwed..
if it is inside, look for poop droppings and look in soft fuzzy places, my hamsters got out a few months ago and they hid under stuffed animals.

good luck%26lt;chelsea
I think that you probably won't find it. If you don't want to see her upset I suggest running down to your local pet store and buying another one that looks like the one you lost.

She won't notice the difference. And she'll be happy.

That's the important thing.
Maybe it died?
Or ran outside?
I would imagine that by now he's snake food or owl food.
I'll bet that if you go to the pet store and pick up another one for $5.99 she won't even KNOW the difference.
you won't catch him.may see him in passing though.
Do you have a cat?
if you do buy another one secretly, make sure you will not see the other one again or she'll be asking many questions and you'll have 2 hamsters, with 2 cages, because remember most hamsters would rather be alone unless they grew up together or were bought together
Put the food where the hamster is used to finding it. Assuming you don't have a cat or some other predator, the hamster might be holed up somewhere sleeping. Give it two or three days before you give up. I had one get out and it showed up in the cage a week later to find food. In the meantime check out cushions and chairs before you sit down just in case.
If it got outside it is probably history a lot of predators out there for an animal that has no experience out side. Sorry as for the child they get over lost pets as soon as something new comes along
Look under everything underbeds under couchs every thing it could fit under look in closets cuz this happened to my sister once and 3 days later we found it alive in my sisters closet cuz before she goes to bed she picks out something to wear for the next day and we think when she went out of the room it snuck in and stayed there but just check every were even check the floor for hamster #2 that helps find them sometimes
First do you have a snake or a cat?
We had a hamster and we felt sorry for him because he looked so lonely. Got him a wife and he killed her. they can be pretty mean. When he got out, he killed mice. Art T D 2 Was a killer.
Don't be fooled by that fluffy little exterior those things can protect themselves. Vic
I think that there isn't a chance you will see him ever again. He's probably been eaten by a cat, or a car maybe ran over him. Or he's lost but hamsters are not dogs, he will not remember where he lives.
My suggestion is to buy a new one.
look behind the fridge, they are often there - dont move it though because u could squish him. also check the stove. have some broccoli or other fresh food with u to lure him in case he's there. put a bucket out with books or something leading up to it so he can crawl to the edge. make a trail of food on the books, just a tiny bit, leading up the books and then put broccoli (no water) in the bottom of the bucket he'll fall in and be trapped and waiting for u. a small trash can or anything not too tall with smooth sides works. since u r home u make sure his cage is on the floor open and he may sneak in for food and u can catch him. if u see him but cant grab him u might put a trash can or something like that in front of him so he'll run in it or his ball if u have one. he'll come out at night hungry if u dont find him today. make it quiet %26 look %26 listen for him. careful of doors and make sure there's no way outside--like where the washer or sink is. how did he get out? u will want to address that once u find him.

this is a good reason to call him by name when feeding so he associates his name with food %26 will come when called.

makes sure any holes to outside r closed---like in the washroom or under sinks.

My daughters Guinea pig is sick, does anyone know?

Cuddles (G. Pig's name) has been with us for about a 1.5 yrs and she has been so healthy and playful but for the last week she has slowed down and doesn't squeal as much when someone comes in her room. She's not eating at all and has crust under her eyes and a little diarrea. I took her to the vet yesterday and she gave me some antibotics and told us to force feed Cuddles some baby food (Squash, Spinich, ect.)for Vietamin C. We still cannot get Cuddles to eat and she is still sluggish, is she going to be okay or what is going on?
Answers:
I'm sorry to hear of your piggie. I love mine dearly. I even have one named Cuddles. My piggies are all just over 6 years old and one is getting real close to 7yrs. Once the crusting has shown up it's 99.9% to late for the piggie. The crusting is from a respiratory infection which is non-fixable by the time crusting shows up. The diarrhea could be from improper nutrition. To much of the wrong veggies, not enough timothy hay, water bottle contamination, parasite infestation in the digestive tract.
If at that age if they haven't had the proper amounts of vitamin C, they will contract scurvy (vitamin C deficiency.) their body doesn't produce vit.C. When hand feeding with a syringe water has to be given also. Some solid poop has to mixed with the food because the antibiotics kill all of the digestive enzymes. Taking it back to the vet will be an unnecessary expense.
I wish I could be of more help, but piggie health is very hard to deal with, that's why it takes special daily care to keep them healthy. I am a medical adviser for the local Humane Society for guinea pigs.
My heart goes out to you and your daughter, and best wishes..piggie dude.
Has it been around Richard Gere?
i would give the antibiotics time to kick in ( probrably about 3 days) then you should see some improvement.. good luck
try a heating pad and use an eyedropper to feed her make sure the food is getting in
I think GP's have a two year life span, could be Cuddles is getting old.

Our pet rat did the same thing, just give her the food and water with an eye dropper and make her comfortable. Hopefully she will snap back.
you need to liquafy the food and put the food in a syringe and carefully force the food in her mouth a little at a time and make sure that she swollows and you may need to do this with water also. ask your vet if you can give her pedialyte i am not sure if you can give to Guinea Pigs this it shouldn't hurt though but if you can then give her this
Take the guinea pig to the vet and find out what is going on.
Marcia is wrong. Guinea Pigs live 5 to 8 years. And diarrhea is very bad, she could get dehydrated. I would really bring her to the vet. With small animals, it doesn't take long for dehydration to occur. Has she been fed too many veggies? Is she getting enough timothy hay. The hay is very important. What are you using for the bedding? Sometimes if any wood bedding (like cedar or pine) is used, it could be very irritating for a guinea pig's eyes. Carefresh should be used instead.
Good Luck!

Your vet would know better than we do what's wrong with her. Did the vet tell you what he thougth was wrong?

Guinea pigs do need vit C in their diet. They can't make any of it in their bodies. How long has Cuddles gone without any extra vit C?

Good luck to you!
Aahh. looks like I'm late..piggie dude is right on. there's nothing I could add..I've read his stuff before, he's very acurate..seems to know a lot about them. Sorry to hear of your piggie.

piggie dude do you have a web site?
