my horsie..?

so.when i lunge my pony he seems to cut corners like major..i whip my whip at him but he barely goes to the edges. i know he had a former injury on the foot that leads the particular side.does that have anything to do with it? he doesnt cut corners to get to the gate, either. he also has a tendancy to go faster when he cuts corners. serious answers only.

I have a pony, and he had the same problem. Make sure the pony is flexible, and wil bend around you leg if/when you ride it. Here's what you should do:

1. walk him into all off the corners very deeply
2. circle in all of the corners as well
3. then trot into the corners (exaggerate)
-if the pony doesn't listen try spurs, a whip, or a cone
4. When he listens reward him

Hope this Helped!
He is trying to tell you that this is not what he wants to do ..ponies are very stuborn. I see it this way you can work him harder and let him know its your way not his or you sell the pony and get a horse, an actuall horse.
If his injury is still hurting him it may be he is still in pain and doesn't want to run. If he is not at the edges and going inwards, then you should direct him immediately once he does that, tap the whip and make him go in. Do you have a lunging rope?? if you do, use it on him so that when he starts to go faster you can yank it down and pull back at him. Show him who's boss. You can use a lunging rope and a whip at the same time. It would be very good for your situation.
most horses do that. i think its because they dont want to go too far in the corners and run into the fence. i dont know where i heard that from but i think it might be right.
You need to tell him that you want him to go and not cut corners. Ponies are VERY stubborn-that is why i have 3 HORSES. but uh ya or it could tell you that this is hurting him and he is not able to do this. Get a horse maybe??

Have your vet check the former injury. It sounds like there is an underlying issue besides stubborn pony syndrom. Also ask your farrier if the old injury was anywhere in the shoulder, leg or hoof, they are experts in this area.
