My Horse. Whats wrong!!?/?

I got on my horse yesterday and I started to canter it didn't fill right so I asked my friend. She said it might be a sore mussle, but i don't know. I bent down to look at her leg and she didn't have any pressure on it. My horses leg was shacking a little bit.My mare is 18.I did run barrels with her for the first time in a long time a few days ago. Will somebody tell me what might be wrong with her!
Answers:
Most likely she stepped wrong going into the canter. If the barrels had bothered her you'd probably have noticed sooner. She may have stressed something a little. An Xray won't show tendon damage. If there's no sweeling or heat she should be fine. If there is your vet or an experienced rider can wrap it or tell you to hose her leg. At 18 years ( not hands for all the confused readers) her age probably wasn't a factor. As long as you warm up I wouldn't worry about running again when she's sound again. It doesn't sound like a foot problem. The one other thing that comes to mind is a popped splint but she's a little old for that. You'd be able to feel it half way up the inside of her cannon bone. Good luck try not to over worry
you need to stay off of it and get it to a good vet if you really want to help it heal.also search the net on how to wrap a horses leg.gl.
Contact an on call vet, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE BARRELS RIGHT AWAY WHEN YOU HAVEN'T DONE IT IN AWHILE YOU NEVER DO THAT, YA GOTTA STRETCH THEM OUT A LITTLE AND LET THEM DO A LITTLE RUNNIN AROUND, and do that for a few days then go into doin barrels and you gotta keep to a schedule thats very important is keeping to a schedule and not breaking it so that for future reference, like I said let the horse rest for a few day and contatc an on call vet!
You need to see a vet as no one here can really tell you what it is, you need a vet and x-ray, many barrel horses and western riding horses as they get older end up with deep flexor tendon injuries or naviculars The only way you will not is to have your horse vetted
It could be muscle soreness (and tremors), especially if you say she hasn't run in a bit and if you ran her pretty hard. If she'll walk on it and she's not sore, I'd just let her rest. If she's limping and lame, I'd call your vet or ask your barn owner if they're experienced. If the muscle tremors don't stop, the vet can prescribe Robaxin (a muscle relaxant). Good luck.
let her rest and ask the vet
i would say hold off on riding her for a few days.if she is 18 and is sore.u shouldnt be riding her rough.try rubbing her down and dont ride for about 5 days.then try some LIGHT walk and trot..if she seems ok canter.if she gets sore at the canter again.dont ride and have your vet or a professional come check her out.!
Your mare is 18.1?.what the heck is she?.a Shire? First of all you never run a horse barrels if not kept on a schedule for fitness. Also, you need proper warm ups and cool downs. I also hope you keep a good farrier schedule as well. You need to rub liniment on the leg and only hand walk the mare and let her have some rest. Is the leg heated up? Is there any swelling? Does she jab her toe in the ground? Many questions to help you w/this before properly answering your question but the best advice for you at this pt is to stay off of her and DONT RUN BARRELS.
I own 3. But no one can really give you a right answer other than your vet. Go to a few different vets and get their opinions.

She's probably a bit stiff, as another answer said you shouldn't have done barrels straight away after a long lay off, she's probably not very fit, i dont know if you ride her alot?

it may just be a bit of stiffness. put her on 5 days of bute (1mg twice a day), if her legs are sore, use a cooling linment, or mudpack - bandage them. the bandages should be changed everyday, hose the legs down for 20 mins before rewrapping them.

After 5 days, if she's still sore then call your vet. You should walk her out, preferably inhand for about 20 mins twice a day, just incase her muscles are stiff - walking will aid with loosening her up.

In future though I suggest you put her onto a supplement for older horses, and maybe MSM (you should be able to get both from your vet) also make sure to excercise her as regularly as possible - it doesnt have to be long or hard work, even if she only works for 30 minutes at a trot - its better than nothing.

Hope this helps you.
Best thing to do is contact a vet it's hard to say what could be wrong without seeing the horse in person.
sounds as if u hurt her leg or perhaps her hoof has a stone it. why not do the sensible thing and CALL A VET
No horse that is 18.1 hands should be running barrels.
That is far to large for a barrel horse. They can not turn that tight or run that hard and fast.
She is most likely sore and needs time off to rest.
If she is not in good shape and run regularly you should not be full out running the barrel pattern on her.
She may have pulled something or bumped it, definetely call your vet right away and ask him/or what to do. Is there heat in it? More so than the other legs? If so, cold hose it for about 20 minutes then wrap it. You can even wrap an ice pack in the wrap on the leg if you have one. Also, if he is putting a lot of pressure on the opposite leg, wrap that one too so it doesnt get sore. That one doesnt need cold hosing or an ice pack unless it gets swollen or hot too, the wrap for that leg is just for support.
