My female 3month old rat humped my 11month old female rat. WHY?

Does humping mean shes a boy?
Answers:
LOL no, it doesn't mean it's a boy, or that it's a lesbian.
Female rats will sometimes do that to eachother, (or "rat boxing", which is really funny to see) as a dominating behavior. They might just be trying to figure out which of them is in charge, so to speak. If your humping rat IS a male, it would have enormous testicles. Since it doesn't sound like you've noticed any giant gonads, I'd say you've just got some girls that are trying to figure out who's in charge.
WOW! Rats have like HUGE testicles!! Can't you tell if it is a boy??
Your rat is, put simply, a queer.
Umm.
Maybe she is a lesbian. But rats have huge things. You would be able to tell.
Hi no this is a well documented fact that rats are bisexual.on experiment done with rats was the following.

A number of rats was placed in a cage %26 allowed to breed.when they became overcrowned any new babies were killed %26 then the rats resort to homosexuality.

This doesn't mean that the rat is cruel but if thought thru it is pretty smart for a rat.deciding that there are too many in the cage %26 they don't have the space the babies were for lack of a better term disposed of.they have no form of birth control but they were smart enough to still enjoy a sexlife without there being any further offsprings.

I was amazed to learn that many years ago when I heard about it but it is pretty smart.maybe a little rastic but none the less smart.

Homosexuality happend throughout the animal kingdom if you look up banobos that are like chimps they use those means like people would us a hand shake %26 it is all a social bonding.maybe to human standards a little perverse but quite true..

Go to google %26 look up homosexuality in animals it a real eye opener.

Having been a dog breeder now for many years I have come across some weird %26 wonderful things %26 have read up on most of them, none any weirder than a dog a friend of mine bought from a guy at a horse fair that was bought as a female %26 turned out to be the only dog that I or my vet had seen that was in fact intersexed..that was a shocker at the time.
When I asked him to take a look at my friends dog for them he thought I had lost my mind as he had never seen one before.changed his mind real fast though lol.
animals like rats and rabbits do that because they don't know what sex they are! your rat doesn't know if she's a boy or a girl, or if the one with it is a boy or a girl. so they just give it a try!
It has nothing to do with sex. It is related to dominance. The dominant(alpha) rat will hump the others so that they know its boss. I have one little boy who often humps one of his cage mates. He does this whenever he feels that the other is challenging his postion. I wouldnt worry about it, its all part of sorting out the pecking order.
everyone is wrong, except kiffie.

All animals mount an animal of the same gender. It is a dominance thing. My female guinea pigs do it. Also, as they are females it could be that she is in season/heat (that time of the month). My female guinea pigs' hormones go a bit hay-wire and they all start mounting when they are on that time of the month.
Likes older women

  1. my rats do that too and I can tell whose the boss. They are all girls, but Pickles was the leader until Spencer finally won and gained dominance. They "Rat box" and stuff too, it's funny. But yeah, they do it to show who the leader is. If your rat that is humping seems more assertive with the other rat, you'll know (taking her food, etc)
